Summer is here!!!!

Hello everyone. Summer is upon us and I am almost done my graduate’s degree. I’ll slowly be adding some new updates and sections to this site over the next couple of months, but here are some sneak peaks:

Cord Cutting Update: Not much has changed since last year but due to our ISP’s design, Hulu with Live TV is not an option at the present time due to public IP geolocation issues. I hope this will change when new ISP options become available in my area. (hint, hint, Fidium). I am constantly checking Suppose.tv for the best fit and price for streaming services but at this point I need a better and fast ISP.

I have also entered into the newbie stage of 3D printing! I’ll make a gallery and post pics soon but so far I have printed Mjolnir and the USS Titan-A.

Hello everyone…..

Howdy. I know it’s been a while and this page is pretty static. Life has been busy, but I hope to add some content to this site soon. Thank you for your patience.

Spring 2019

Well, Spring and Summer is almost here. I know this site has been quiet but new content is coming soon.

It’s almost fall…

Where has the summer gone? I remember spring so clearly… I know I keep promising to post more content and updates and I will get there….eventually.  I plan to post about the fall television season upon us and some of my hobbies. I’ll get there.

Update

Hello Everyone,

I know things have been quiet on this site but life has been busy. I’ll try to post some cool new stuff soon…….

The cord has been cut!

We have cut the cord. It has now been 6 days since I cancelled Dish Network and all is going well. We have settled on using two services: YouTubeTV and Philo. YouTube has the locals and sports channels and Philo fills in the missing cable channels like History and the Travel Channel. I’ll let you know is a couple of months how things are going but it does feel good to save a $140 a month… 🙂

To Cut the Cord or Not? 2018 Update

Well, we are currently into week one of the Olympics (go USA!!) and my Dish Network contract is almost up. About two weeks ago, my father was frustrated with trying to operating a FireTV stick on a Roku TV and said I’ll just go without. The reason for the FireTV stick on a Roku TV was because the Dish Anywhere App only works on FireTV.  So I told him lets try something different. Because local channels are important to my parents, I signed them up for a 7 day trial of Youtube TV and Philo. I added Philo because YouTube TV is missing some key channels my folks watch like History, Animal Planet, and Destination America. Both services have Roku apps so I was able to remove the FireTV sitck and go just one remote with the Roku TV.

Well, we’re now into week three and my father loves it. He likes the interface of YouTube TV over Philo but he has figured out how to use both and is happy. He was especially happy about how much less the monthly costs were over the current Dish Network setup we have and he said even though he will miss WMUR, he is willing to switch everything over if it saves that much money and works. 🙂 So unless something unforeseen happens between now and the end of the month, I believe we will be saying goodbye to Dish and become full cord cutters. I will miss the Hopper 3 and its abilities but the DVR on both YouTube TV and Philo work well and we will save about a $150 a month and not be stuck in a contract. If another service offers better stuff, we can switch anytime.

So here is the costs breakdown:
Current: $192 for Dish
New: $20 for Philo and $35 for YouTube TV (there is news of a price increase coming to $40 soon).

To Cut the Cord or Not? Update

Well, the research into Streaming TV options continues and I am now watching for my local channels to be added before I make the big decision to swap. I am under contract until February regardless so I have time before I make a decision but at the moment I am really liking DirectTV Now as a viable option but it doesn’t have my locals yet. Hulu comes the closest with 3 locals while PSVue has only 1 local. I am in the Portland, Maine DMA but so far local offerings have been slim and antenna is not an option.
