If you read part 1, you’ll know my history of being a satellite TV customer and that my current Dish Network bill has grown to scary proportions. Here is a breakdown of my current bill: 1x Hopper3 with a Joey and 2x Wireless Joey’s. For programming I have the highest package, American Everything Pak plus locals, and movie channel addons. All together, it is just under $200 a month! I originally consider just lowering the programming package to one of the small packages but even that is around $50 a month plus the equipment fees would bring me to just below $100 range. This would be better but I want to get the most bang for my buck and that is why I am considering going to a Streaming TV service. I already have high speed internet so why not use it for TV as well?
I researched online and I took the advice of many bloggers and asked the hard question: what channels does my family actually watch? This is harder than it sounds and this will be a lengthy process since this is summer and we are not watching our usual amount of TV. I have created a form that I will be placing near each TV and will ask the family to simply write down the channel and name of show/movie whenever they sit and watch TV for the months of September and October. I am stuck under Dish contract for another 5 months so I am really taking my time with this research. I also added a check box on whether the show/movie is important to the watcher or just filler. I know, sound OCD of me and reminding everyone to write in on the form will be a pain but I really want to now what channels are “must haves” before I go finalizing which streaming service to try and go with.
So stay tuned as I post updates once we hit September and start watching the fall season.
